Bullish in its Ways, its Taking Over the Stage!

Man, so the weekend was crazy fantastic. And if you didn’t make it through to the Redbull Soundclash…well, don’t read on otherwise your in for some heavy disappointment.

It was a battle not to be missed what with Tumi and the Volume up against rocker group The Dirty Skirts. Each band was given a popular song to do a cover of. But get this…each rendition of the orginal song had to be done in the genre of each band.

340mlImagine The Spice Girls’ ‘Wanna Be’ over the smooth reggae flavoured dub of 340ml and with the hip hop spitting tempo (and flow) of Tumi Molekane…this is what makes up Tumi and the Volume.

Now standing on a stage of similar stature, imagine another band clad in rock gear…adding a bit of spice that the girls left out in the ‘Wannabe’ tune with a bit more edge and a lot more musical comand. This is the Dirty Skirts.

Now imagine about 300 people packed between these stages whom ,when on command by tv vixen VJ Fix, scream at the top of their lungs in a supportive frenzy for either band. Each fan looks at a decibel meter in a mad attempt to scream even louder driving the numbers up.

At the end of the shouting match, The Dirty Skirts comes out tops winning 2 rounds out of 3. Hmmm, a lot of people I enountered were skeptical about this win though – most said they were in it for Tumi and the V to win it. Oh well. We’ll keep the conspiracy theories at bay, this time.

But yeah, anyway…if you missed out on this round of Soundclashing, another is on thee way! Check out kwaito sensation Bricks up against The Parltotones on…ahem…watch this space. Date to be confirmed…Wait…spoke the organisers and this is hwat they said:

“I wish I knew! These events are massive, have loads of behind the scenes stuff going on and take months to plan so there won’t be one for a while but hopefully again soon enough.”

Damn. Well, when they know, and we know…will give you the heads up…

Gasp! Don’t you be so Fresh!

Sikwane_ThatoI know it’s been a minute, ya’ll. Excuse my hiatus…but ya, ne…it looks like DJ Fresh just might be taking over Bad Boy T’s position as ‘bad boy.’

Yep, yep! DJ Fresh has been slapped with a hefty bill of R5000 for being a city slicker…that is speeding down Joburg’s N1 South highway. It is true indeed.

Now, there is nothing “fresh” about this man after pulling a stunt like this. He has placed himself in the same box as bad-asses like Paris Hilton, Robert Downey Jr, and Lindsey Lohan. Nothing new about that at all.

Well, at least the Fresh Drive host admitted guilt to kak driving – no, we’re not commenting onhow he conducts the show, either. Keep those judgemental thoughts to yourselves now guys. There is no slandering here! (Go to Shwashwi for that…)

But, yeah, homeboy had this to say, “I knew that my actions were wrong and therefore punichable by law.”

We agree and well done to owning up, Thato – and to the quick PR turn around too. Dude walked out of court with a shirt branded “DJ FRESH Guilty of Speeding. 161km in 120 km Zone. (Speed Kills Ya’ll).

Impressive. Quite impressive…

So it turns out…

That Puff Johnson and Ishmael are not dating, afterall. We heard the lady say it for herself on etv’s breakfast show, Sunrise (weekdays 06h00-08h00).

She flipped the script on all of us saying that the only reason they have been seen in each other’s company so much of late is because they are in the same music stable. At least one thing has been confirmed.

Ghetto RuffYes, it is true…Madame Puff is here in the country recording a new album with Ghetto Ruff Records. So fans can get ready to sprint to the shops when the album drops.

Ghetto Ruff was not able to give an exact date…they gave a really broad estimation actually – somewhere between August and October.

I guess it’s always safer to simply not commit, hey?

But, yeah, Puff stated that Ishmael is alomst like a brother to her and has been giving her support since she joined the record label.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu Most Desireable Celeb in SA!

•July 1, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Desmond Tutu Halo

Maybe it’s his austere religious air.

Maybe it’s in the fact that he stood his ground during the ‘Jay Z for President’ debate. We all like a man who fights for what he believes in, right?! Whatever it is, this man pulled in the most money in a celebrity auction, recently.

Close runner up was Elana Afrika whose name, radio and TV personality and star status brought in an impresive R3 600.
