Celebrity Influx Hails Kick-Off Concert

They say good things happen in 3s. Well, this rings true once again  with the 1st influx of international celebrities just days ahead of the World Cup Kick-off Concert.

Touching down on SA soil yesterday was curvaceous Columbian sensation Shakira.

Close on her heals this morning was soulful hearthrob John Legend.

And tomorrow morning, R&B belle Alicia Keys will be gracing the all too familiar Joburg International Airport once again.

Including the legendary likes of Vusi Mahlasela, Hugh Masekela, Anjelique Kidjo, Amadou and Miriam, Soweto Gospel Choir, as well as those on their way to legendary status – Freshlyground, BLK JKS, Vieux Farka Touré, K’Naan, The Parlotones, Juanes, Mzansi Youth Choir, Lira, Tinariwen and the BEPs – the musical extravanganza will be staged at Soweto’s Orlnado Stadium this Thursday, 10 June. That’s 2 more sleeps, ya’ll! 🙂

And hopefully by now you’ve secured your tickets (if you haven’t, you had better step on it cos they’re almost sold out!) But 1st, here are a few things you will need to know before you head to one of SA’s most popular townships…

  • you will be jostling for space with  29 999 fans – you will make the number an even 30 000!
  • get to the stadium as early as possible to avoid disappointment (like pap seats or standing waaaaaay at the  back! :-P)
  • Orlando Stadium gates open at 15h00 – grab one of the 150 park-and-ride buses that will be waiting on standby at Nasrec Expo Centre (map)
  • Remember* you will need your valid concert ticket to gain access to the buses. So don’t get caught without it.
  • The Mooki Street entrance will be the only access point at the stadium. The buses will drop you off and collect you there.
  • Food and beverages to be sold at the venue. You will not be allowed to bring your own in.
